DID YOU KNOW THAT: The story, according to legend, begins with Marco Polo who, following a trip of his, brought this new pasta shape to Italy. Upon returning from distant China and arriving in Venice in 1292, the navigator brought macaroni to the population. However, this narrative does not seem to be entirely true since the type of pasta was already known for at least a century earlier in Italy, as attested by several contemporary writers at that time. Today the fame of macaroni is recognized in every part of the territory point that the Lazio region has included pasta in the list of traditional Italian agri-food products.
Furthermore, the term macaroni is used to refer in a generic way to short pasta with a hollow shape, necessary to better absorb the taste of the sauce that accompanies it. The association of the term with pasta is common outside the Italian territory. With greater precision, smooth macaroni are a type of pasta with a tubular shape and a maximum of 6 cm long. The smooth surface of the pasta allows to obtain the most refined smooth macaroni.This characteristic of the surface allows the macaroni to present itself as an excellent ally of sauces typical of the tradition of some Italian territories.
